Bali is an island and province of Indonesia. The province includes the island of Bali and a few smaller neighbouring islands, notably:

It is located at the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. Its capital of Denpasar is located at the southern part of the island.

Bali is a popular tourist destination. It is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. The Indonesian International Film Festival is held every year in Bali. Most Balinese are very artistic and practice in some type of art.

I travelled to Bali with 4 other people. If you go slightly off he beaten path, is very easy to secure deluxe, affordable accommodation, with breakfast and your own butler, for under $60 per couple, per night. One of my favorite locations was UBUD and The UBUD Art Market, locally referred to as ‘Pasar Seni Ubud’. This is one of the most visited art market in Bali, adjacent to the Puri Saren Royal Palace.

The art market is open every day except on ‘Nyepi’ or the Saka New Year, when the town literally shuts down for a whole day.

Bali is part of the Coral Triangle, the area with the highest biodiversity of marine species. In this area alone over 500 reef building coral species can be found.Diving and snorkeling are popular and should not be missed. Check out diving with 158 species of marine life.

If you are looking for an active and cultural holiday full of fabulous Indonesian food and culture, I highly recommend Bali. Stay away from the busy hangouts like Kuti Beach, located just outside Denpasar. My next post will include details on the fabulous food and accommodations available in Bali.
